Everyone that ordered official event shirts on-site after we had sold out of the 300 we brought are eagerly waiting to get their hands on them. We restocked on the shirts late last week and will be sorting, stuffing and labeling them all to drop in the mail before the end of this week.

In case you haven’t made your reservations yet but had an eye on a particular cabin or that poolside cabana for resting after a day on the Dragon’s Tail we recommend you do so soon! Amazingly enough (and we can’t thank y’all enough for this) we have already sold out almost 40% of our current room allocation!!!
As we continue to grow it’s going to be more imperative that you make your reservations early if you want to stay at Ground Zero.
Again we would like to extend our thanks to our attendees, vendors, sponsors and Fontana Village for making this our most successful year yet. Despite a few hiccups we were able to:
Register 564 cars, more than ever before
Photograph 244 cars and only turned away 6. This is down less than 40 cars from last year, which is amazing given the circumstances.
Raise $4,111.00 for Graham County Rescue Squad; an increase of almost 50%!!!
This is humbling; that we as a community can make this large of an impact over two days. Stay tuned for more updates and information as we start planning for next year!
So, you like free Miata parts and gear, right? Each year we work with our vendors and sponsors to bring you some pretty damn awesome prizes. We’re thinking it’ll take more than one Miata to bring all the prizes down this year so get those tickets early and often.
We do this to raise money for the local volunteer EMS crews that are the first responders for any accidents that happen on these beautiful roads. This year the proceeds will be going to Graham County (NC) Rescue Squad.
We know it’s been barely a week since we talked about driving in the area but… The area and groups like ours draw a lot of attention and we’d much rather it be of the positive variety. Please read our general guidelines below and remember to use common sense and courtesy out there!
-DO NOT CROSS THE DOUBLE YELLOW LINE
-At all times, do not drive like an idiot.
-Do not drive outside your own abilities, especially if you’re in a run and trying to keep up with the leader or the car ahead of you.
-Don’t speed, these are public roads
-At night and in low-visibility conditions, be very careful. Large wildlife can jump out of the woods in any curve, and people HAVE hit things like boar, bear, and deer. Hitting a 400 pound wild boar can ruin your weekend.
-Slow in the Village. Fontana has a lot of families on vacation and small children running around, so be very careful and don’t drive fast in the Village
-Pull Over!! If you have vehicles stacking up behind you, pull over in a safe area and let them pass. The Dragon has many paved pull-offs explicitly for this. Use them.
-Beware of very large trucks. Though they’re illegal on the Dragon, they do still find their way up there from time to time, and they are still legal on all the other area roads. They take up a LOT of space, especially when trying to navigate the tight corners that the Miatas eat for lunch.

With a mere 2 days before the Sunset Run officially kicks off the always Unofficial MATG we want to extend our gratitude to Moss Motors for their donations to the raffle and for the goodie bags! They’ve donated too much stuff to list here for all generations of Miatae, but it’s definitely a good reason to buy those raffle tickets early and often.

Once on site we always have a physical event board as well. Please double check all of the times and locations as some events have participant caps or different sites for meet ups and such.
