There’s a rumor floating around that we may split the raffle up a bit for a couple of reasons. One; to not cut so deep into the beer and wine swap, and to allow those who only make a day trip out of it a fair shot at some amazing parts. So, if you would like an earlier ‘small’ items raffle around lunch time please let us know in the comments below.

Since we’re still waxing nostalgic, and definitely upset about being back in reality we’d love to thank our sponsors who donated to the raffle and allowed us to give over $2,500 to the all-volunteer Graham County Rescue Squad who will save our bacon if, but hopefully not needed on any of the roads on the NC side of our playground. We think that we’ve finally recovered from the beer and wine swap, and are feeling a bit nostalgic today. One of our favorite activities is checking out www.killboy.com to see if there are any pictures we missed purchasing. There’s one problem, they don’t cover anything like the Dam(n) photo, the vendor area, the parking lots during lunch, all of our runs, etc.

Here’s one of our favorites from Scott Blue from the Thursday Night Sunset Run, but we’d like to see yours. Comment with a picture or a link to an album so we can shed a tear about being back to the grind (though we reserve the right to share them later with a photo credit).

While we normally like to be happy-go-lucky, there are occasionally some things that need to be addressed. That being said we avoided any major incidents this weekend and we would like to do a bit of a PSA to our fans and anyone else who may come across this post.

The single MOST important rule on this public road is to “Keep it between the mustard and the mayo”, colloquially. In other words, STAY IN YOUR LANE. The entire 11 mile stretch of US 129 and many of the other roads in the area are marked as No Passing. While the coast may look clear there is never any guarantee that someone isn’t coming the other direction at a high rate of speed.

We need to remember that after all, this is a public road with many tourists, cruisers, rockets, Miatae and other vehicles that all have a family that wants us to come home safe. So let’s all remember to stay within our limits and not let the red mist get the best of us.

We wanted to continue to thank our vendors, sponsors, and attendees. Just like last year (our 20^th anniversary), we were able to set a few new benchmarks in 2017. We had the largest number of vendors this year which seems to coincide with our highest level of registered attendees to date. With only one day left before dragon season officially opens, we would like to take a second to remind you to drive within your own limits. The picture was taken on 8/1 of a Miata that went off US129. We put together some driving guidelines which you should all follow:

-DO NOT CROSS THE DOUBLE YELLOW LINE
-At all times, do not drive like an idiot.
-Do not drive outside your own abilities, especially if you’re in a run and trying to keep up with the leader or the car ahead of you.
-Don’t speed, these are public roads
-At night and in low-visibility conditions, be very careful. Large wildlife can jump out of the woods in any curve, and people HAVE hit things like boar, bear and deer. Hitting a 400 pound wild boar can ruin your weekend.
-Slow in the Village. Fontana has a lot of families on vacation and small children running around, so be very careful and don’t drive fast in the Village
-Pull Over!! If you have vehicles stacking up behind you, pull over in a safe area and let them pass. The Dragon has many paved pull-offs explicitly for this. Use them.
-Beware of very large trucks. Though they’re illegal on the Dragon, they do still find their way up there from time to time, and they are still legal on all the other area roads. They take up a LOT of space, especially when trying to navigate the tight corners that the Miatas eat for lunch.
